I used HTML, Photoshop for graphics, Saxotech script (a proprietary programming language used to display news articles), and JavaScript to run the vertical scroll (running under “Key New Jersey Results”). See picture.
A collection of postcards I published for Rutgers-Camden admissions, circa January 2006. I took stock photos and manipulated them to add text or graphics.
Last night, I gave my election results theme a slight upgrade. I gave the editors a way to update a candidates vote tally, as you see below.
2010 Election Results Front-Page Upgrade
The admin panel, where an editor could edit candidate’s info or delete a candidate, was programmed in PHP and all the data is stored on MySQL database.
Election results admin, where managers update their vote tallies.
Completed: Under a two-hour turnaround inside a work day.
Took the election map elements from the original voter guide standalone page and embedded an iframe on the front page, while pulling latest election headlines and links. All graphics were made either with Photoshop or Illustrator.
Layout: Designed and sliced in Photoshop and coded the content in Dreamweaver.
Map Graphics: I edited three New Jersey graphic maps in SVG in Adobe Illustrator to give districts/counties some gradient color and some outer glow along the border. I later exported it in compressed JPEG image format.
Map Navigation: Used HTML, JavaScript and CSS to show and hide maps instantly when a reader clicks on a map link.
It was all Photoshop for doing image manipulation and fade-in/fade-outs and graphics, while keeping the font and colors consistent with what Major League Baseball used for their branding. HTML and CSS was used for image and object page positioning.
Quick update. Last month, I made some slight alterations to the page layout and page logo, live video is on with a weekly high school football highlight show and the game of the week, and my work locked in a sponsor, Velocity Sports!
Here’s hoping for more page views and more income! 🙂
A special section focusing on New Jersey state politics and latest headlines from the state capitol. I made the title banner in Adobe Photoshop. That pen tool was useful in making the silhouette of the New Jersey capitol dome.
Project Completed: August 2010, in a one-day turnaround.
Used Photoshop to create the title banner and the logos. Used Saxotech programming code to query and display the relevant section front article headlines.
Page was designed in Adobe Photoshop and primed in Dreamweaver. Our live video provider Livestream.com allowed us to use their video player, live chat and video library widgets for content. Proprof.com provided free polls.
UPDATE: I’m happy to announce that my live sports video page got a big-money sponsorship deal with an area store and that this page will go live this fall, right in time for high school sports season!
The layout was based on our sister newspaper web site, the Asbury Park Press in Neptune, New Jersey. However, I added and tweaked some aspects to make our page look like our very own.
Front-page Tweaks:
– The news ticker was coded in HTML, CSS and JavaScript and pulls in the latest ten stories from the paper’s content management system.
– The four red tabs were coded in HTML, CSS and AJAX. Each tab contains specific content. When a person clicks on a tab, the section loads immediately without reloading the page.
– I tweaked the original template’s color scheme from light-blue to burgandy. I utilized Adobe Photoshop to carefully re-color every button, border and image holders without re-sizing the image.
